Ok, so I have been hinting for a while that I am going to go away for several months( I also hinted that I was going to shave my head and stuff like that) and I have already told a few people who have asked me but I think the time has come I told the rest of you guys.

IDK how long you guys have been following me but if you are one of my old followers, I think you know my story by now or have the basic gist of it.

When me and my family left our country, we got asylum in Finland, my immediate family naturalized and become citizens and then later on immigrated to the UK to join some of my other extended family. I am Finnish citizen.

Finland, is a country that practices conscription (compulsory national service for all male citizen), seeing as I am male and a Finnish citizen, the service applies to me as well, I got my recruitment letter when I was 18 and I chose to post pone my service for several years, I got another letter last year and I am choosing to go through with it this time, the service takes approx. 6 months (or more…depending if you want to extend it) and I’m leaving London in 4 days to go to Finland and in mid-july I’ll be signing up and be in the army base starting my training.

I’ll be out during weekends, so it’s not like I am going to go away completely but I’ll try to queue posts so that my blog is active will I’m gone. I know this is probably a huge bombshell and you are probably wondering WTF, but this is the reality here and I don’t know any other way to break it to you guys except be honest about it, it’s also not something I can avoid without getting in to trouble with the law and I am mentally prepared to do this, all the men in the country go through the service and I grew up knowing that I had to do it at some point and NO, I am not scared or upset or worried, if anything I am looking forward to getting it out of the way because I have had to go back and forth and deal with paper work for like 3 years now and now I can finally get it done and also I feel really (I don’t want to say proud but) like I am giving back, if that makes sense…. The country took us in at a time when we were extremely vulnerable and had nothing and I feel like I am returning the favour in a way(not that I have any choice, its compulsory but what I mean is I am going in there really motivated and ready to do well)…I hope you get what I mean.

Few things you should know though, the Finnish national military training is purely to train people if the country ever gets attacked, and Finland is probably one the most peaceful & democratic countries in the entire world, it doesn’t have beef with any other country, so I am not worried about any wars or any other stuff requiring me to risk my life for the country anytime soon, it’s kind of like the IDF in Israel, only I am not killing innocent people and I won’t be involved in any state sponsored terrorism, also…I believe in the IDF, its compulsory for both the men and women to join the military, well in Finland its only men, so it’s going to be a fucking sausage fest :/ (Women can volunteer though).

So yeah, 6months, from mid-july, weekends and national holidays off duty…see you LDN in 2013.

Don’t feel bad for me, I’m looking forward to it, it’s been overshadowing my life for the last 4 years, I just want to ACE it and move on.
